Rune Lindbaek’s Drum Island label returns with a killer Balearic track as summer turns to autumn. Rune joins forces with celebrated vocalist Kurt Maloo (last heard on Fascinating Rhythms) for this superb downtempo vocal gem, and has drafted in an all-star remix line-up too:
The original version is a delightful, intimate singer-songwriter cut with a mellow feel. ESP Institute favourites Cos/Mes add a stripped-down Balearic version that builds tension throughout. Ray Mang goes for a reggae-disco style – kinda like a Sly & Robbie / Compass Point Island label oddity from 1983. On the flip Rune hooks up with Oyvind Blikstad for a more upbeat version – cosmic / Balearic house style. Lastly Seahawks are given the lion’s share of the wax, providing us with a seriously dubbed-out, fx-laden, trippy cosmic rework at half speed. (Piccadilly Records)
