Long story short, the first and only time I heard The Captain And Her Heart was over 30 years ago at my dentist office. I was around 10 years old but I have always remembered the piano melody from the chorus and it has been stuck in my head but I didn’t know any of the lyrics or the name of the song until today – finally I came across it and it is like nostalgia taking me back in time.
I guess I just wanted to share the story and let you know I have been listening to the song over and over again today and it makes me feel happy!
Hiya Kurt! I have to say, The Captain of her Heart was one of my fave songs of the 80’s, a true masterpiece! I still remember the first time I heard it….I was 10 years old in Calgary, Alberta Canada, in May or June of 1986. I was home sick from school, in the condo, and it was a really rainy, foggy day. Your song was playing on a local TV station that presented all its news on a text form. To this day, I still relate this song to that heavily rainy day, and it actually fits it perfectly lol….I can’t think of any better memory for it. 😎 It says something though when that song has such a huge impact on a 10 year old.
Hello from Portland, Oregon. I was with friends last weekend in a remote cabin near Mount Adams in SW Washington, where we we listen to music we bring or via FM radio each time we go out there, (no cell or internet service) so we are truly unplugged and in the moment. “Captain of Her Heart” was played and we all remembered the song, how big it was for us when we were in middle school in the mid-80’s and collectively wondered what happened to Double. It was great to find your website and see what you have been up to…congrats on all the great material over the years! I was sad to learn of Felix’s passing…my condolences…his memory will forever live when listening to Double.
A few questions: Do you know what synth(s) and drum machine was used on Captain of Her Heart? I’ve been trying to find a download of the song via Apple Music, etc., but can’t find it anywhere. I’m glad to pay for an MP3, AIFF file, etc….do you know of a link where I can go to get it? Are there any videos / interviews that depict the making of the song and / or that album?

Hi Pat. The only similarity that comes to my mind is that we produced songs in the 80s with a 70s vibe, while Air sound partially like 80s in 2004. Is this called timeless?

Today I heard The Captain of Her Heart, and was reminded how beautifully this song is composed and sung. What an awesome, heartfelt song. I Googled the video for it, and I am curious if one of the female models is actress Denise Richards…. is it? It doesn’t matter… the video is great too… something melancholy yet joyous and sexy. I hope to see this song performed live someday, if you ever perform it in Los Angeles.

Hello Kurt – 31 years after the fact. For some reason, “The Captain of Her Heart,” popped into my head while I was playing my keyboards tonight. The first time I heard it was on the radio in Billings, Montana in the United States, and I was setting up with a band. I actually remembered who did the song, and it wasn’t hard to find it again after all this time. It still has that hook in it which just catches you, and the production on the song is great. I’m very glad to hear and see that you’re still at it. And I’m playing as well, albeit south of San Francisco. I hope that you’re well.

Die neueren Sachen die ich bis jetzt gehört habe (auf Spotify) finde ich grossartig.
